The Feeds Widget allows for reading Feed Items from configured Feed Channels.

As soon as a Feed Item was opened in a tab or a Preview Window, this item will be marked as 'read'.

Previewing a Feed Item

To preview a Feed Item from the Feeds Widget, simply select the grid row representing the item you want to read. A preview window will slide out of the widget towards the center of the workbench, providing information about

  • the title of the item
  • the item's contents

There can only be one preview window opened at a time. Selecting another grid row while the preview window is open will hide the window and open another one.

Interacting with the Preview Window

You can interact with the preview window in different ways.

Closing the Preview Window

The Preview Window can be closed by either clicking it's 'Close'-icon or by deselecting the row in the grid that was selected for opening the preview window. To deselect a grid row, simply hold the Ctrl-key while clicking the corresponding row.

The 'Visit entry' Button

To visit the URL associated with the Feed Item in a new browser window, click the 'Visit entry' button found at the bottom of the Preview Window.

The 'Open in new tab' Button

To read the Feed Item in a tab click the 'Open in new tab' button found at the bottom of the Preview Window.

Dragging the Preview Window

The Preview Window can be dragged. It has not a specific drop target, however, when dropped, the Feed Item that was shown in the window will open as a tab in the main panel of the workbench, providing the toolbar related to reading Feed Items.

  1. Open up a Preview Window by clicking a grid row in the Feeds Widget.
  2. Click on the header of the Preview Window. Detach the Preview Window from the grid by clicking it's header, then dragging the window while not releasing the mouse button.
  3. It does not matter where or when you release the mouse button - as soon as you do, the detached Preview Window will be added as a tab to the workbench's main panel.

Opening a Feed Item in a Tab

Feed Items from the Feeds Widget can be opened in a tab. Besides dragging and dropping a Preview Window top open a tab, you can also double-click an entry from the grid in the Feeds Widget to open the corresponding item as a tab.

You can also double-click the header of a Preview Window to open the Feed Item in a tab!

Working with the Feed Tab

The Feed Tab provides information about:

  • The title of the Feed Item
  • The date when the Feed Item was created
  • The author of the Feed Item
  • The related URL to the Feed Channel
  • The content of the Feed Item

The Feed Item Tab's Toolbar

The toolbar provides the button Visit Entry . When clicked, a new browser window will open and loading the original URL for the Feed Item.

The Feed Item Tab's Header

The header provides basic information about the Feed Item, i.e.

  • The title of the Feed Item
  • The date when the Feed Item was created
  • The author of the Feed Item
  • The related URL to the Feed Channel

The Feed Item Tab's Body

The body itself shows the content of the related Feed Item.
